3d Butterfly Wedding Invitations

Album: Deerhoof - Deerhoof Vs Evil (2011)

S orti January 25 at Polyvinyl / ATP Vs Evil Deerhoof is the 10th album from Deerhoof DIY .
How to understand a new album from Deerhoof? We did not apprehend but suffered the madness of this inventive group that has made a name among the American indie scene.
At the time Deerhoof record coming out a year, records mixing all genres and often unclassifiable, one could expect some changes since this album came out 3 years after Offend Maggie in 2008.
The album was leaked voluntarily tracks by tracks through different sites. In France, it MagicRPM who undertook the job.

Deerhoof is "an experimental band Minus All The Things you hate about experimental" . As I'm pretty resistant to anything that is experimental and cerebral that I love Deerhoof, I do not agree that it is tagged "experimental " either. We can compare this group to easily Fiery Furnaces, Matthew Friedberger the brain also has some way to deconstruct his compositions.
Pieces of Deerhoof however without much piano as the family Friedberger, and are much more noisy at times.

These two groups are certainly the most exciting American bands to listen to, but above the 15-year career of Deerhoof are a real treat for someone who deeply bored with music these days.

Tracklist:
01. Who Dorm, Nomes Somia
02. Behold A Marvel In The Darkness
03. The Merry Barracks
04. No One Asked To Dance
05. Let's Dance The Jet
06. Super Duper Rescue Heads!
07. Current
Must Fight 08. Secret Mobilization
09. Hey I Can
10. C'Moon
11. Crimes I Did For You
12. Almost Everyone, Almost Always

As usual, the album by Deerhoof have no particular guideline, it goes in all directions with semi-acoustic pop songs (No One Asked To Dance, Crimes I Did For You ), the experimental electronic tinged (I Can Hey, Almost Everyone Almost Always) or other oddities usual unstructured ( Who Dorm Nomes Somia, The Merry Barracks ) .

However, this album is not too much a demonstration of the potential Greg Saunier , the drummer, who is a monster live and on albums like Apple O 'Milk Man or (only the end of Mobilization secret is a little nervous).
We realize this pretty quickly with the Deluxe version with two live tracks: Panda Panda Panda and You Can not Sit Down , all extracted from a 2 Live in New York: A big slaughter.

What I really enjoyed this disc, are pieces almost affordable by anyone: Behold A Marvel In The Darkness and Super Duper Rescue Heads! Satomi Matsuzaki sings where always a way too adorable. Moreover, it has retained a youthful voice over the years, which is also one of the charms of the group.
Another remarkable quality mix of the album, was recorded and produced entirely by the group itself and the result is rather remarkable. Let's Dance the Jet is a good instrumental song where the band played a small jam nice.

To listen on Spotify : Behold A Marvel In Darkness, No One Asked To Dance, Let's Dance The Jet, Super Duper Rescue Heads! Secret Mobilization, Hey I Can

Verdict:
Over time, Deerhoof continues to produce great records never be totally bluffing, or disappointing.
Personally, I find this CD very affordable and one of the most pop ever created by the group of San Francisco: Not too noisy and Satomi has a voice still slender.
is not the disk that will increase the number of fans by the thousands, but add to the long Deerhoof discography, this disc is clearly his place beside Friend Opportunity, or Apple Milk Man O '.

At the beginning of the year, the audacity of this group brings a certain freshness, like the solo album from Matthew Friedberger, who faced the challenge of out 1 album per month: the nuts!

Deerhoof will make a big French tour in April, including a date at the Maroquinerie April 19, 2011 !

Album: The Decemberists - The King Is Dead (2011) # 34

S orti January 18, 2011 at Capitol / Rough Trade, The King Is Dead is the 6th group effort from Portland: The Decemberists .
album released 2 years after The Hazards of Love which received a mixed reception. I enjoyed this disc with a theme and a special atmosphere (this riff Tananananana !) Since he turned in a loop for weeks but I quickly realized the shortcomings of this CD: The concept of form- makes the album difficult to listen if you do not listen in the order and a draft, isolated pieces are much too low. So I waited a
Decemberists return to a more classic, an album and without particular structure.

The album title is an obvious reference to the Smiths' album The Queen Is Dead , one of the biggest influences of the singer-songwriter Colin Meloy. It has even been set up EP of covers of Morrissey solo.
Like The Hazards of Love which included one of the most beautiful voices of our time, Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond), The King Is Dead has its guests: Peter Buck (Guitariste de R.E.M.) et la chanteuse d'alt-country Gillian Welsh .

Hello alt-country!
Tracklist :
1. Don't Carry It All
2. Calamity Song
3. Rise to Me
4. Rox in the Box
5. January Hymn
6. Down by the Water
7. All Arise!
8. June Hymn
9. This is Why We Fight
10. Dear Avery

Dès l'ouverture sur Don't Carry At All , one is greeted warmly by the harmonica of Colin Meloy, something he was not in the old albums. We recover the rich and typical of the group (violins, accordion etc ...) but we feel especially the presence of Peter Buck's acoustic guitar. Obviously it sounds like REM all over!
Singing secondary Gillian Welsh is alive and well and adds to the ambiance folk / alt-country group that clearly wants to create with this album. What's better than the alt-country singers of the most popular for this job then?!
pieces where Peter Buck is present ( Song Calamity and the single Down By The Water ) are certainly the best songs on the album: a totally catchy guitar and vocals by Colin Meloy who are still working well on me.

What I love everything from below: groups who mix the songs uptempo and slow songs well honey. The Decemberists must be one of the best bands in this niche there, listen to the debut album Castaways and Cutouts , it is really dreaming. So when
To Rise Me and Dear Avery are songs of Americana fairly quiet with the steelpedal / bottleneck in abundance: I absolutely love.
On January Hymn and Hymn June, Colin Meloy is alone on guitar and singing these songs full of emotions and with very little arrangements, as he used to do.

The group tried to change a bit but the emotions This Is How We Fight clearly has no place on this album, I find this piece out of context but it is not bad either. It would clearly have been out of place The Crane Wife on .

To listen on Spotify : Do not Carry At All, Calamity Song, Rise To Me, Hymn January, Down By The Water, June Hymn, This Is How We Fight

Verdict:
The King Is Dead is a good record, and being a big fan of alt-country scene U.S. I had to love this disc. The result is that I have less hooked at first listen this album than on the top 5 albums of the group who are killing from A to Z. .. Maybe I expected too much of a The Crane Wife bis.
T rop alt-country alt-country kills? I felt an atmosphere too stodgy in its completeness. blame the lack of electric guitar and epic tracks ("The Island or Sons & Daughters ). For example, to avoid this, Wilco add a tint to his experimental compositions.
The group's objective was to release an album with sounds 100% Americana / alt-country and the result is not so bad it, The Decemberists are not a group that played like that before (only Tarkio, the former group of Colin Meloy, sounded very alt-country).

Group Colin Meloy continues his discography without missteps, with rich sound that makes this group so pleasant to listen to and interesting to follow.
In any case, the group is still popular in the U.S., The King Is Dead having reached the age 1 on the Billboard 200 in its first week!

I now understand why, at the sight of their "success" European tour more like a European tour UK. They will make a move to Antwerp early March, and I would not miss it this time!

God is back on Earth!

The icon of the 90s indie Jeff Mangum is back!

All Tomorrows Parties managed to program the singer and mastermind of Neutral Milk Hotel for the New Jersey PTA Curated by Portishead .

He who has retired from music after 2 albums where "everything has been said" a decade ago, he returned as resurrecting Jesus for solo dates in America but also in Europe by the fall.
To understand why this guy is a legend and everyone him s. .. admire, Weezerandco wrote a very good article on In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.
We would have told me that five months ago, Jeff + Europe + Fall 2011, I would not have believed one second.

Album: Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean (2011)

A seem January 25, 2011 in 4AD , Kiss Each Other Clean is the fourth album from Sam Beam, under his pseudonym Iron & Wine .

This is the first album since leaving Sub Pop, a way that more and more groups chosen (The Thermals, Band of Horses, etc. ..) because the impact of Sub Pop in Europe is very marginal.
Besides, I'm quite surprised to learn of Iron & Wine to almost everyone, I thought it was pretty well known, but it is not. In France, nobody knows except for some folkeux warned that recognize themselves.
His voice, fingerpicking, and the importance to both dedicated songs are only words that Sam Beam is a character that counts in the world of American songwriting in the 2000s: Each new album is something I am very closely.

Tracklist:
1. Walking Far From Home
2. Me And Lazarus
3. Tree By The River
4. Monkeys Uptown
5. Half Moon
6. Will Run Rabbit
7. Godless Brother In Love
8. Big Hand Burned
9. Glad Man Singing
10. Your Fake Name Is Good Enough For Me As

for every singer-songwriter, doing only the basic music (but where they excel) tired pretty quickly. Sam Beam is trying so over the years to create new songs, by adding to arrangements to give a special atmosphere.
Right now, the big fashion is to electro, all singer-songwriters in this genre are there (Sufjan Stevens, Destroyer). It was unclear how
Sam Beam, with his The Creek Drank The Saddle sounding very folk-alt country could touch the electronic one day. Over time, the music of Sam Beam has evolved with the release of the excellent The Shepherd's Dog in 2007, with a tinge African and a completely different atmosphere.

For Sam Beam did not stop in so good way. With Kiss Each Other Clean , it shows us clearly, through the opening Walking Far From Home it wishes go out to a horizon filled with synthesizers and new sounds.
In contrast, there is still disoriented by her sweet voice, beautiful harmonies and a breathtaking ending.

Where I really struggled to hang it on the pieces as monotonous as Me & Lazarus, Big Hands Burned or Monkeys Uptown that has redundant arrangements that hide the lack of interest in the songs themselves.
Note again the presence of the saxophone, the fashion in early 2011! Sam, you got me accustomed to much better ...
For cons, I really think these songs would be much better spent with me if he had kept the arrangements Afrobeat as synthesizers.

Fortunately, I recognize that I like Iron & Wine with wonders like Tree By The River or Half Moon, which have tremendous arrangements (xylophone, vocals, synthesizers, and ... low! very rare in Iron & Wine).

Half Moon (Live on Jimmy Fallon)

The suave and calm side of Our Endless Numbered Days spring here with Godless Brother In Love , a song with the sweet and honeyed beautiful piano arrangements for the coup.

With Sam, I was used for a sublime album ( Flightless Bird, American Mouth or Passing Afternoon ) and the last 2 are probably the best of this album.
Glad Man Singing is a big demonstration of the potential Voice of the famous bearded, with such intensity that I stayed 5 minutes before resuming my spirits during his Daytrotter session . The arrangements are also very beautiful, hats off Sam!
The river song of the album, Fake Your Name Is Good Enough For Me is a song showing that Iron & Wine is still one of the greatest singer-songwriters of our time. A summary of the album sounds through the ubiquitous saxophone and a song in 2 parts: upbeat and a big decrescendo where Sam sings in a loop so hypnotic and interminable, like The Trapeze Swinger .

To listen: Walking Far From Home, Tree By The River, Half Moon Godless Brother In Love, Glad Singing Man, Your Fake Name Is Good Enough For Me

Verdict:
Kiss Each Other Clean continuous opening The Shepherd's Dog with an album sounding a bit more than I wanted but is still quite disappointing in some songs.
One may wonder if it really was worth the shot to be always in constant search of arrangements for his songs, especially when we know what it is worth only an acoustic guitar. I personally prefer
Sat alone with his guitar, wooded atmosphere that emerges but also the intensity of her singing. By adding redundant arrangements, I find that the songs lose their magic.

This album is still very much above average, I do not appreciate it as much as The Shepherd's Dog or Our Endless Numbered Days but the quality is there. Sam remains still one of the most talented singers on whom America can count on.

It will be at the Alhambra February 17, again but inevitable, especially since his visits are quite rare in Paris.

Do Scabies Get Worse After Medication

Album: Destroyer - Kaputt (2011)

P revised January 25 at Merge Kaputt is the ninth album destroyer, a project of Canada from Vancouver Dan Bejar .
For those who still do not know, he is a member of The New Pornographers, where he wrote 3 songs per album. Like many groups with members with a strong personality, an aura or something that makes me want to attach myself to them (as in Teenage Fanclub). In the New Pornographers, each in its many and varied projects, more or less interesting but Destroyer is clearly the best of all. Anecdote: When I was in England Bowl II, I was chatting with people during international concerts and it shocked me to say that Destroyer was 100 times better than the solo albums of AC Newman, finally they are 2 projects that n have not all the same target.

After a multitude of plays, I realized that I was dealing with an exceptional songwriter and not just a side project that only bitter experience of the Canadian scene. After
fifteen years in the service of music, we note that since the 2000s Destroyer is a constant output album verging on perfection .

Tracklist:
Chinatown
Blue Eyes
Savage Night At The Opera Suicide
Demo For Kara Walker
Poor
In Love Kaputt
Song For America
Bay Of Pigs

Dan Bejar is above all someone very enigmatic and iconoclast. A submachine gun with words makes you sound the words with the melody as person in the world, with a singing style that I always found pretty badass .
Through his group, he has experienced everything: the lo-fi acoustic songwriting debut, the pop songs with musicians of all kinds but in recent years he has made a fool for love songs most wanted and ambient.

reminder, Dan had caught everyone short in 2009 leaving the EP Bay Of Pigs , a kind of music but mostly UFO un virage assez violent depuis l'excellent Trouble In Dreams en 2007.

The first single was available Chinatown and found its actual experiments through electronic drum machine, synths that create this sound slick but also things that we had not heard so far and Dan will be used in abundance on this album: the saxophone and female vocals.

This sax will accompany us throughout the album, giving her spiritual and jazzy disc. Dan's voice is much more withdrawn, leaving more spaces to hazy atmosphere that gives off its tracks and especially female vocals like Blue Eyes or Downtown , atmosphere replays of racing games on Playstation.
Kaputt wants to be a disc paying tribute to 80s synth and the similarity of pieces with Roxy Music is obvious.
space-rock ambience even reaches its maximum on Suicide Demo For Kara Walker where the listener is flat free for over 2 minutes. 6 minutes remaining are concentrated among the whispers of magic Dan, flute and the backing female vocal: quite a marvel.
Personally, a piece like this one has a rather exhilarating, I almost had an orgasm canal.

The feeling of being in another world continues with the title track Kaputt , very tasty, but honestly that sounds like music for films that went on the 6 on Sunday night.
clip transposed exactly my feelings vis-à-vis that title: the dream, beautiful babes, fog and the feeling of regret for a goal unreached.
Song For America is the logical continuation of Kaputt , where he could already speak some "Song For America" can find rare notes of guitars in this album.

Oh sounds like a dream to me .... (This sax is totally infectious )

How to end a perfect album already? The vast Bay Of Pigs has shoulders strong enough to play this role. How to describe it? Long, stunning, disturbing, dancing, just mind-blowing.

I do not advise people not familiar with the work of Dan Bejar, it is best to start with or Streethawk Destroyer's Rubies, which are more accessible.

This disc atmospheric air and hovering is the missing link to his discography to consider it as one of the greatest songwriters in the world, such as Iron and Wine or Sufjan Stevens.
The big difference lies in sounds, Destroyer is not folk but closer to Bowie and the piano-rock.

At first I had great difficulty with his voice is a bit peculiar. I can even say now that I listened not even his songs with the New Pornographers, what was still con "Yeah, the guy with the voice of alcohol is not"

In 2010, there were many great albums but I did not find any album that leaves me speechless after listening to a "oh fuck it's huge ".
Kaputt is slap the beginning of this year that I had not felt last year but I do not have the knowledge musical enough to fully describe this album, his influences and references.
Like his sense of detail, we feel that every sound is not there by chance.
The only thing I see is the top of my 2500 plays Destroyer that Kaputt is a masterpiece, a giant disk again, as his former productions.
Ah yes: Dan Bejar is a genius, thing I would never say enough about this blog but trust me.

Group listening: Jonny

J onny is the musical project between Euros Childs (the defunct Welsh Gorky's Zygotic Mynci ) and Norman Blake (from Teenage Fanclub , fortunately still in business).

They release a self-titled album 100% pop at Merge in April, but will be available in February in digital version.
Meanwhile, the album is already circulating on the web and we can find a simple pop-based and acoustic piano, close enough songs like Baby Lee the last Teenage Fanclub.

This album has no pretensions and is perfect for a smooth start in 2011. He has some pop nuggets that I propose below, Circling The Sun makes me extremely happy.

New extract the next Iron & Wine

Among my eagerly awaited albums in 2011, there is the next Iron & Wine to appear in 4AD : Kiss Each Other Clean scheduled January 25, 2011.
Still not leaked, they manage quite well on that side, knowing that Mogwai has already had its flight (scheduled for February).

Mr. Folk aka Sam Beam we always reserve a different sound on every album from a folk and soft skinned (Our Endless Numbered Days, one of my discs bedside) to exotic sounds like The Shepherd's Dog .
The new album will sound more clearly electro (?!), those who know the man may indeed have a bit scared, you can download a sample Tree By The River " just below.

As you know, the blog is used to promote the artists quite well known everywhere, but not in France. It is never too late to hang up the car!
