Mom In Tight Underwear

Concert Review: Broken Records + Freelance Whales @ Flèche d'Or 12/02/11

Almost two months without an account reviews of concerts, I missed it! (Or not, I just do not have time right now).

After a month of January almost empty, the serious resume with this very good poster: young New Yorkers Freelance Whales and Scottish Broken Records.
An evening with two interesting groups that have not deserved reputation because they are objectively very good.

Broken Records (Scotland)

Broken Records is a little known Scottish group, which already has 2 albums released by the most excellent UK label 4AD ... Suffice to say that on paper, they had already scored big points.
On stage, a set was incredibly good as I rarely see in part one. They have the look class, violin and keyboard to get a well as I like and songs that unite.

In any case, it was a pleasant surprise. I am surprised that nobody likes their music on CD as well, I appreciate very much. One could summarize it as the perfect cross between The National and their fellow Frightened Rabbit.
The audience, many of whom foreigners, was captured. I've been there and bought their last album in the wake.

Freelance Whales (U.S.)

Freelance Whales have only one album, but what album! Weathervanes was released in 2009/2010 (I know too much about these stories of label) and I have a very big blow of heart for this album.
This is the second time I see them. The last time was lying in the grass of the county of Somerset in End Of The Road 2010 .
They have a little success so that I notice on their Last.fm page, knowing they did not do more than echo it, is remarkable.

Freelance Whales, the mix of synth to the Postal Service and American folk instruments (banjo, mandolin etc. ...). It's very fresh and they exchanged a lot of them instruments.
I like cute songs but also those that give you chills as Generation ^ Second Floor which is killer live.

Only problem: A single album set therefore necessarily very short! Strongly second album.
